NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) responded to the local Walmart on Thursday morning on a shoplifting report.
Employees tried to detain a woman acting suspiciously at the self-checkout area. She allegedly had selected $210 worth of merchandise but only scanned and paid $78.
When officers arrived, the suspect, Rebecca J. Bowling, 41, of North Vernon, had fled. NVPD located the car she left in, a short distance away, and stopped it.
Bowling supposedly gave a false name and birthdate to the police. They discovered her true identity, confirmed she had an active Jackson County warrant for a probation revocation, and allegedly found her to be in possession of methamphetamine. The driver of the vehicle in which the suspect had fled, Bradley J. Oldham, 45, of North Vernon, had a suspended license. Both were arrested.
