Overnight snow covers northern Ohio, causing some outages, messy roads

Overnight snowfall downed some tree limbs and caused hundreds of power outages in Holmes, Richland, Ashland and Summit counties this morning, but meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Cleveland said it s all about to melt as temperatures rise into the 40s during the day. This is just a system that happened to come in at the right time and have enough cold air to give us snow, said Mike Griffin, meteorologist. But once we get some sun up through the clouds this all will go away this afternoon. If this (weather system) happened during the day today, we wouldn t have any accumulation on the ground because of the high sun angle. The sun would be coming through the clouds and eating away at the accumulation of snowfall.

Too many dollar stores? Canton councilmen question number of shops

CANTON – Travel a few miles in any direction and you re bound to pass a store with dollar in its name. Dollar General and Family Dollar each have five stores in Canton, and Dollar Tree has four stores within the city limits. City Council recently approved a replat for the future site of a sixth Dollar General, but it also prompted members to question the apparent glut of dollar stores.  When you stand at the site where this proposed Dollar General s going in, you can actually see the sign of another dollar store, Councilman John Mariol II, D-7, said. He begrudgingly voted in favor of the change on April 5, citing the council s inability to legally deny the development and his fear that an oversaturated market will lead to vacant buildings. Mariol and Councilman Greg Hawk, D-1  who cast a protest vote in opposition to the replat  said they want to consider their options to limit new dollar stores.
