A row of bright red and blue lights greeted children and hospital workers at four medical centers Wednesday night, courtesy of San Antonio’s first responders.
Police, firefighters and sheriff‘s deputies parked outside of the hospitals as part of First Responders’ Christmas Night Lights Extravaganza.
Joe Arrington, a San Antonio Fire Department spokesman, said it was easy for them to take some time out of the day and put a smile on kid’s faces.
“If we can take a moment to distract the kids from why they’re in the hospital, that’s the least we can do,” Arrington said. “We hope we can continue to do it next year.”

SAN ANTONIO – COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in San Antonio, but even a frontline medical worker can feel anxious about when and how she’ll get one.
Dr. Jeanne Lovett, a North Side pediatrician with a private practice, found herself worried last week after the route she had planned on appeared to fall through.

Lovett, an affiliate provider through North Central Baptist Hospital, had been getting texts from the Baptist Health System about vaccinations. So Lovett believed she and hopefully her staff would end up getting vaccinated through Baptist.
UT Health San Antonio administers COVID-19 vaccine to frontline healthcare workers

SAN ANTONIO – A day following a monumental delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine, UT Health San Antonio will begin to administer the drug to frontline healthcare workers.
Doctors, nurses and care team workers in San Antonio will roll up their sleeves and receive their first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine starting on Tuesday. The hospital will vaccinate its workers during a live event from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Pfizer COVID-19 regimen includes a second dose administered in three weeks. Workers at UT Health San Antonio will receive their second dose over several days in January, according to UT Health.

SAN ANTONIO – Nearly 6,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine were delivered to UT Health San Antonio Monday morning, the facility confirmed in a news release.
The doses are among the first to arrive at hospitals in Texas since the vaccine was approved by federal regulators last week. UT Health San Antonio is one of only four sites in Texas to have the vaccine delivered on Monday, according to the news release.
