FA confirm National League System restructure will go ahead

Darren still in Barnsley 22 years after moving from New Zealand to Oakwell

× Darren Young was one of a number of young New Zealand footballers brought to Barnsley FC 22 years ago and, although he never made an appearance for the Reds, he still lives in the town and is manager of Dodworth Miners Welfare FC. Born in Whitehaven in Cumbria before his family emigrated to New Zealand when he was 11, Young was one of a number of Kiwi talents signed for the Reds by Colin Walker including Rory Fallon, Leo Bertos and Dave Mulligan, who all played for Barnsley’s first team and internationally for the All Whites. Young, who represented his country at under 20s level and spent the majority of his career in Ireland, looks back fondly on his time at Oakwell.

Non-league clubs don t expect season to re-start but are confident of survival

× Barnsley s top non-league clubs are not expecting to complete their season but, although they face difficult times, they are confident they can survive as businesses. The Northern Counties East League – in which Penistone Church, Athersley Rec and Worsbrough Bridge play – has been suspended for a second time this season along with all non-elite sport. More than half of the games remain to be played and, with a re-start unlikely until March at the earliest, it is expected by many that the season will be declared null and void like the 2019/20 campaign. Penistone’s Dave Hampshire said: “I just don’t think we will start again for this season.
