Medical Marijuana (MJNA) - A Marijuana Major? More Colleges Are Offering Cannabis Courses To Help Students Score Industry Jobs

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) in Arizona recently announced an eight-week cannabis industry education course. Knowledge is power, says Dr. Bobra Crockett, who oversees the curriculum s development. Students can study a range of topics, including business planning, marketing, funding, regulations and social equity, she explained. SCC aims to use its online program to educate students beyond the Arizona area, hopefully teaching aspiring entrepreneurs and those already operating in the illicit cannabis space who desire to convert their skills to the professional market. It is our goal to help develop a qualified and trained workforce, Crockett adds.  SCC is just one example of a school tweaking its offerings as a means of keeping up with a growing trend: As demand for college-educated cannabis professionals increases, more students will seek out marijuana-centric programs.

Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal SANTA FE — The New Mexico Supreme Court last week denied Northern New Mexico College’s motion to overturn an Appeals Court ruling for wrongfully demoting and then terminating the former director of the college’s El Rito campus. The case will now go back to the District Court to work out the details of the settlement. Melissa Velasquez first filed suit against the college and its board of regents in 2015 after she was fired for raising concerns about financial mismanagement at the college. She was awarded nearly $420,000 — $239,451 for two years and 10 months in back pay and $180,000 for emotional distress — in a jury trial. The jury also ordered the college to reinstate Velasquez to her former position, though that position has since been filled.

San Pedro Woman Appointed New Commissioner

San Pedro resident Christine Bustos was appointed Feb. 12 by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to be the new District 2 Rio Arriba County commissioner.     Bustos was appointed to replace Leo Jaramillo who was elected to the state senate last November and was appointed to the senate early after former senator Richard Martinez ended his term early citing COVID-19 related concerns.     In a Feb. 12 phone interview Bustos said she was honored to receive the position.     “I’m very honored to be appointed and hope to do my best for the people of Rio Arriba County and especially my district.”     Bustos said she didn’t have a list of objectives yet but was planning on meeting with County leaders as well as with former commissioner Jaramillo to talk about what initiatives he started, so she can identify her priorities.
