San Pedro Woman Appointed New Commissioner

  San Pedro resident Christine Bustos was appointed Feb. 12 by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to be the new District 2 Rio Arriba County commissioner.
    Bustos was appointed to replace Leo Jaramillo who was elected to the state senate last November and was appointed to the senate early after former senator Richard Martinez ended his term early citing COVID-19 related concerns.
    In a Feb. 12 phone interview Bustos said she was honored to receive the position.
    “I’m very honored to be appointed and hope to do my best for the people of Rio Arriba County and especially my district.”
    Bustos said she didn’t have a list of objectives yet but was planning on meeting with County leaders as well as with former commissioner Jaramillo to talk about what initiatives he started, so she can identify her priorities.
