Family displaced after fire in Elgin apartment Daily Herald stock image
A family was displaced Friday after a fire in an Elgin apartment complex.
According to the Elgin Fire Department, the fire, which is under investigation, began in a complex consisting of 12 two-story apartments on the 300 block of North Crystal Avenue.
The fire began shortly before noon in a corner unit, starting on the first floor and extending to the second floor.
Damage from the fire was contained to the one unit, although adjoining units experienced smoke damage, firefighters said.
Fire damage to the first floor was extensive, with significant heat and smoke damage on the second floor.
