A group of veterans wanted to send a message to the residents living at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home: You’re not forgotten.
On Monday afternoon, members of the local Vietnam Veterans of America gathered outside the State Veterans Home in honor of Memorial Day. An estimated 25 vehicles, including motorcycles, cruised around the complex as the residents peered out their windows and waved. Some of them watched from the courtyard.
“They need to know they’re not forgotten,” said J.R. Stafford, president of the Reno chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America. “They need to know that their sacrifice, them wearing the uniform in service to our country, is not forgotten.”
