Temple police arrest man who barricaded himself in hotel room

Temple Police on Tuesday arrested a man who barricaded himself in a room at Americaâs Best Value Inn for hours. The man reportedly had a weapon and barricaded himself in a room at the hotel, located in the 900 block of North General Bruce Drive. Police spokeswoman Alejandra Arreguin said the department was called at noon and sent officers to the hotel area. Police closed portions of northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 35 between Nugent and West Adams avenues during the standoff. Officers spent hours attempting to make a peaceful resolution, she said. The incident ended at about 6 p.m. and police reopened roads.

Dutch Bros Coffee plans to open two Temple shops by early next year. The Oregon-based coffee chain will open sites at 6520 W. Adams Ave. and another at 201 N. General Bruce Drive off Interstate 35 near Temple High School, 415 N. 31st St. âWeâre so excited for our two upcoming shops in Temple,â company spokesperson Rilynn Davis said in an email. âWeâve started construction at 6520 W. Adams Ave. (in) Temple, TX, and are still in the planning process on North General (Bruce) Drive.â The city of Temple said in a tweet Thursday that Dutch Bros will build at the site of a former Long John Silverâs restaurant on North General Bruce Drive.
