Influential nonprofit Albina Vision Trust has announced plans to build affordable housing apartments and a community theatre in the historical heart of Portland s Black community.
Designs for the site between North Wheeler and Flint avenues calls for a seven-story complex offering 120 units of housing reserved for families making 30% to 60% of the area median income, as well as an adjacent theatre that will anchor the future of the neighborhood to its rich cultural history, according to a news release dated Jan. 20.

Longtime Jasper restaurant owner and operator Bob Treat has died at the age of 85.
Treat, who along with his family owned the Cedar Treat Restaurant on South Wheeler Street here in Jasper died on Sunday morning at his home following a long illness.
A native of Oklahoma, Treat and his wife Connie opened the Cedar Tree Restaurant in the 1700 block of South Wheeler Street in 1988. However, great food and a great waitstaff, along with a buffet that became well known throughout East Texas and West Louisiana resulted in more and more customers and in 2012 Treat and his family announced that they were moving the eatery to a new 7,000 square foot building just up the street in the 1300 block of South Wheeler where it is today.
