North Callaway girls go cold against EHS | The Mexico Ledger

General Manager The North Callaway girls were held to three second-half points in a 33-23 loss to Elsberry Thursday night. It was a game that hinted at the two teams’ previous matchup in the Bowling Green Tournament as Callaway again relinquished a first-half lead with a cold second half. Leading 20-11 entering the half, Callaway was outscored 22-3 in the final two periods. While the offense was cold, the Thunderbird defense proved stingy. But the offensive woes were significant including only three assists for the game and 0-for-15 shooting from the field in the second half. Abrielle Burgher and Ryelle Schmauch had 6 points each to lead North Callaway. Burgher added 4 steals. Kyanne Kellerman had 5 points and 10 rebounds.

[Nathan Lilley] By:  General Manager The North Callaway Thunderbirds held off a third-quarter Van-Far rally, rolling to a 64-45 win in opening round play of the Bowling Green Tournament Tuesday. Callaway’s defense limited Van-Far to 15 first-half points, as the Thunderbirds took a 30-15 lead into the half. Van-Far would chip away at the lead in the third, but the T-Birds answered with a 24-17 fourth quarter to advance to the semifinal winner’s bracket where they faced Clopton (results not available at press time).

North Callaway girls clobber Louisiana; boys dominate Paris Published by admin on Wed, 12/23/2020 - 7:24am By:  General Manager There was little drama in last Thursday’s conference match-up between the North Callaway Thunderbirds and the Louisiana Bulldogs, as the Callaway girls successfully defended their home court, soaring to a 59-8 Senior Night victory. Callaway opened up with an 18-0 lead after the first quarter and they held Louisiana to only three first-half points.   All four Callaway seniors - Makenna Allen, Trinity Brush, Taylor Head and Hayley Kimbley -  started and each one scored for Senior Night. Allen had 10 points and added 5 steals; Brush had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

It’s good to be home. That was evidenced as the North Callaway Thunderbirds hosted Van-Far Tuesday night. It was Callaway’s first home game and the T-Birds didn’t disappoint their fans with an impressive 80-50 win, despite big numbers from the Indians’ Nikos Connaway. “It was nice to get back on the winning track,” said coach Matt Miller. With COVID-19 always in the shadows, Callaway opted to celebrate Senior Night, which is normally the last home game of the season. “All four of our seniors played a great game,” Miller said. After trailing 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, Callaway caught fire and steamrolled to the commanding win.

Callaway shooters struggle at Centralia Published by admin on Thu, 12/17/2020 - 11:33pm By:  General Manager Shooting went cold as the North Callaway boys fell 57-49 in consolation semifinal play Thursday night in the Centralia Tournament. After shooting over 50 percent in previous season contests, the Thunderbirds were 20-for-56 from the field against No. 5 seed, Sturgeon. Callaway also struggled from behind the arc, hitting 4-for-17 from three-point range.   Cody Cash led Callawy with 16 points and 4 steals, Matthew Weber had 10 points; Noah Scrogum had 6 points and 10 rebounds, continuing his streak of double-digit rebounding.    Sturgeon had four players in double-digit scoring, led by Logan Flaspohler. The win improved Sturgeon to 1-2.
