Eastern Alamance head football coach John Kirby spoke with HighSchoolOT Triad reporter Zack Adams to breakdown the seven-game spring season. The Eagles were 14-1 overall and 7-0 in Mid-State Athletic 2A/3A split Conference during their 2019 campaign.

Welcome back to high school. T. I m Zach Adams, and I m joined this morning by Eastern Elements head football coach John Kirby. Thank you for joining me here, Coach. Hey, thanks for having me, Zach. D.H. Conley claimed a three-point win over Southern Durham at home on Tuesday night to advance to the second round of the 3A boys basketball state playoffs.

It’s a rivalry that runs as deep as the waters of Lake Logan and as wide as the Pigeon River that snakes its way through this county of 60,000, but this year the annual Pisgah-Tuscola football game has already taken on a significance that extends far beyond the borders of Haywood County.
“In normal years at Pisgah, we would be expecting anywhere to 13,000 to 15,000 fans from across Haywood County and across the region,” said Canton Mayor Zeb Smathers, a Pisgah graduate. “This is the best high school rivalry in the state.”
Last fall, the annual game was cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. It’s been rescheduled to the night of Feb. 26, however highly restrictive rules implemented by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association mean that an outdoor stadium that can comfortably accommodate more than 10,000 spectators will be limited to just 100.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte-Mecklenburg students were given a sign of hope on Wednesday when the district announced it will allow both athletics and arts programs to resume.
In a release, the district said high school swimmers and divers currently qualified for postseason regional competition will be eligible to participate in those events scheduled to begin Feb. 5.
