CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - Southern Illinois Universityâs softball team will advance to the MVC Tournament Championship game.
The Salukis scored seven runs in the final two innings to beat the Illinois State Redbirds 7-2.
The championship game will be Saturday, May 15.
They will try to bring home the programâs third conference tournament when they take on the second-seeded University of Northern Iowa Panthers at 1 p.m.

Wide receiver Brandon Smith didn’t get a ton of catches during his four years at Iowa. But now that his time with the Hawkeyes is over, he appears to be airing a couple of grievances he has with their playcalling.
Taking to Twitter this weekend, Smith found a highlight of a big touchdown grab he made in a game. He then retweeted it and seemingly criticized the team for not calling more plays like that.
Has issues handling leverage.
Lateral mobility isn’t ideal, but the length helps cover some issues there.
Height makes it awkward to drop his butt into an anchor because it stills gives plenty of space for leverage from defenders.
Needs a lot of technical refinement and development.

CEDAR FALLS, IA. (WFIE) - Senior Eryn Gould hit the 25th home run of her University of Evansville career and is now alone in third place on the Purple Aces all-time list. She hit a leadoff home run on Saturday with the Aces falling by a 9-1 final in the series finale against UNI.
Gould’s home run gave Evansville (17-11, 5-4 MVC) a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Panthers (15-13, 7-2 MVC) scored five in the bottom of the second before pulling away for the win.

(WFIE) - Following a 15-game homestand that saw the University of Evansville softball team go 11-4 overall and 5-1 against Missouri Valley Conference opposition, the Purple Aces take to the road this weekend for a 3-game set at UNI. Play gets underway on Friday with a noon doubleheader before an 11 a.m. contest on Saturday at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex in Cedar Falls.ESPN3 will carry all three contests.
