Police name victim in deadly carjacking

Credit: WBAL-TV Image Police have identified the driver who was carjacked Friday in southeast Baltimore then ran over and killed with his own car. Around 5 a.m., a Southeast District officer witnessed the initial assault in the 100 block of North Conkling Street. As the officer approached, the three assailants entered a blue sedan and sped away. While speeding away, the driver struck the victim, Fabian Mendez, and dragged him for several blocks, causing severe injuries. The driver then struck another vehicle and bailed out. The 16-year-old was arrested after a brief foot chase. Mendez was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. He was 41.
