Michigan house explosion, fire sends 8 people to hospitals

MARSHALL, Mich. (AP) Eight people have been hospitalized following an early morning explosion and fire at a home in southern Michigan.
Firefighters in Marshall found the home completely in flames when they arrived about 1:43 a.m. Monday.
Authorities told WOOD-TV the house was under construction.
The extent of the injuries to the victims was not immediately known.
Marshall is about 60 miles (96 kilometers) southeast of Grand Rapids. Top Picks In Shopping

NEWAYGO, Mich. (AP) A man whose son accidentally detonated an explosive at a western Michigan school was charged with illegal possession of destructive devices, authorities said Monday.
An indictment unsealed in federal court accuses David Saylor of possessing unregistered explosive devices and a stolen firearm.
In March, Saylor s son brought a homemade explosive to Newaygo High School and accidentally detonated it, injuring himself and others, authorities said.
Police immediately searched the man s home and charged Saylor in a local court with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and manufacture or possession of a Molotov cocktail.
DTE Energy Foundation grants help provide meals to families

DETROIT (AP) More than $100,000 in grants have been awarded by the DTE Energy Foundation to help provide meals for Michigan families facing food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic.
The funding is going to Feeding America West Michigan, Fishes & Loaves and Gleaners Community Food Bank.
Feeding America West Michigan near Grand Rapids will receive a $25,000 grant to fund 20 mobile food pantries that will provide meals to about 3,400 families across five counties.
Fish & Loaves food pantry will use its $25,000 grant, in part, to extend its hours and supplies to serve an additional 1,000 households per month.
