BENGALURU: With some states opposing the decision to conduct exams in only Hindi and English, the Centre on Tuesday decided to postpone the process of recruiting clerical staff to banks, initiated through the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. A committee has been formed to investigate demands to conduct banking exams in regional languages and exams will be conducted after the committee makes its recommendations. “The committee will submit its report within a fortnight. Until then, the ongoing process of holding the examination will be kept on hold,” the finance ministry said on Tuesday. Last week, IBPS had issued advertisements to conduct exams to fill around 3,000 clerical posts in 11 public sector banks and exams were to be held in Hindi and English. This triggered large-scale resentment among candidates in several non-Hindi speaking states.
