William Goddard Jr. A Fort Dodge man who pleaded guilty to shooting another man with a flare gun has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his crimes. William Goddard Jr., 32, was arrested on July 22, 2020, after he shot a 52-year-old man with a flare gun in the 500 block of South 15th Street the day before. In a video recording, Goddard Jr. was seen shooting twice at the man before pushing him to the ground and striking him with a blunt object numerous times. Before he left the crime scene, Goddar Jr. struck the victim lying on the ground with his vehicle.

Donathan Williams A Fort Dodge man will spend a decade in prison after pleading guilty to willful injury for stabbing a man in a downtown apartment in July 2020. Donathan L. Williams, 42, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday by District Court Judge Kurt Stoebe. Earlier in the week, Williams had pleaded guilty to willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C forcible felony, in exchange for two other charges being dismissed. Williams was arrested on July 2, 2020, after the victim, 39-year-old Lavaris Bosworth, walked into the Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, 126 N. 10th St., with wounds on his neck and back. Bosworth was transported to UnityPoint Health Trinity Regional Medical Center for serious injuries.

IMCC presents competency evaluation in IC attempted murder case

12/20/20 The findings of a court-ordered competency evaluation have been submitted in an Iowa City attempted murder case. Online records show the evaluation of 34-year-old transient Trell Grant, performed at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale, was submitted to Johnson County District Court on Friday. Legal proceedings in the case were suspended on December 10 th pending the evaluation, which was ordered by judge Andrew Chappell. Grant is accused of robbing and stabbing a clerk at Delimart on Lower Muscatine Road just before midnight on August 21 st. Arrest records indicate Grant entered the store, walked behind the counter and quickly and repeatedly stabbed the clerk with a knife until the clerk opened the cash register drawer. Grant then fled the scene with money from the register, leaving his bag behind.

The meeting was live-streamed on youTube and on the County website. Chair Thomas Broeker and supervisors Bob Beck and Jim Cary were joined by a handful of department heads.
