Months ahead of the Assam assembly elections, the Congress suffered yet another jolt with two former MLAs Ajanta Neog and Rajdeep Gowala joining the BJP today.
Ms Neog and Mr Gowala had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati on Saturday to finalise their joining. Soon after, Ms Neog had announced that she will be joining the BJP in the next couple of days.

Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog, who is a three-time former minister, and Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Goala joined the BJP. They were expelled by the Congress earlier for their alleged anti-party activities.

GUWAHATI: Just months before the Assembly elections in Assam, two MLAs who had been expelled from the opposition Congress joined the BJP on Tuesday.
Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog, who is a three-time former minister, and Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Goala joined the BJP at a programme in the presence of the party’s state unit chief Ranjit Kumar Dass and state’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Banendra Kumar Mushahary, a former MLA of the Bodoland People’s Front, also wore saffron.

Two Assam MLAs expelled by the Congress joined the BJP on Tuesday, about five months ahead of Assembly elections.
Ajanta Neog, who represents the Golaghat Assembly constituency, is a three-time former minister, while Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Goala is an influential “Tea Tribes” leader in southern Assam.
The duo joined the BJP at a programme in the presence of the party’s Assam unit president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Guwahati: Expelled Congress MLAs Rajdeep Gowala and Ajanta Neog on Tuesday joined that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati. At a time when the Congress is receiving criticism from all quarters, the expelled MLAs also hit out at the Grand Old Party, saying it is directionless and visionless.
“There is no discipline in Congress and the party is directionless. Their national leadership doesn t care about grassroots workers think,” Ajanta Neog said. Rajdeep Gowala also said that the party is visionless.
The developments come amid an internal bid to oust Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora. Former minister Ajanta Neog recently met Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, fuelling speculation that she may be joining the BJP. Congress had expelled her from the party.
