BJP Assam president Ranjeet Kumar Dass
GUWAHATI: Following reports of resentment among grassroots-level workers over the joining of Congress leaders, the BJP’s Assam president, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, clarified that it is the cadres that build the party, not leaders.
“The party needs cadres, not leaders. Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Gowala, who was suspended from Congress for indulging in anti-party activities, will join the party soon and after that, we will close the door for all. Joining as a cadre, however, will continue,” Dass said. He added that besides Gowala, no one else has ever approached him regarding joining the saffron camp and he, too, does not want bad elements from the Congress flooding the party.

Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog
GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has removed its MLA, Ajanta Neog, from the Golaghat district president’s post over alleged “anti-party activities”. The move came amid speculations that the MLA from Golaghat constituency may join the BJP when Amit Shah visits the state next week.
While APCC awaits All India Congress Committee’s decision on Neog’s expulsion from the party, they have already sent a team to her home district, Golaghat, to take stock of the party’s position there. Speculations of her joining the saffron camp started after her meetings with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma a couple of days ago.
