Southbound lanes of I-71 closed Friday after crash involving semi

The southbound lanes of I-71 closed Friday afternoon and into the evening at U.S. 62 on Columbus South Side after a fatal accident involving a semi trailer-truck. The crash occurred at approximately 2:59 p.m. when a 2020 International truck and trailer exited the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over in a ditch, according to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Franklin County Sheriff’s office deputies and fire department personnel from Pleasant Township and Jackson Township responded to the crash, which took place south of Lambert Road, according to the release. The driver of the vehicle was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition. At 4:01 p.m., the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.

Credit: Michael Dinan Traffic volume on Canoe Hill Road has tripled from 500 to 1,500 cars daily due to the state’s temporary closure of Route 123 due to a culvert replacement, police said last week. Officials also are finding that a “significant amount” of motorists are not using the Department of Transportation’s designated detour route on the east side of 123, and are instead using Parade Hill Road, Oenoke Ridge, Lambert Road and Country Club Road on the west side, according to New Canaan Police Deputy Chief John DiFederico.

Six people, including one from East Lancashire, have been summonsed to appear before magistrates for their involvement in a puppy selling operation. The proceedings were brought by Animal Protection Services, a registered charity that investigates and prosecutes organised animal cruelty following investigations into organised crime groups that sell puppies. Jordan Hinds, of Burton Street, Rishton has been summonsed to answer offences of running a business of selling animals as pets, aiding and abetting, and acquiring criminal property. Heather Young, of Lady Acre, Bamber Bridge, has been summonsed to answer offences of running a business of selling animals as pets, unlawful trading, fraud, and transferring criminal property.
