Major coast road upgrade revealed as part of fire recovery

In 2019, the Cobraball bushfire burnt across the Capricorn Coast, engulfing 12,100 hectares of land including 15 homes, 38 sheds, 8,500 hectares of grazing land and 275 hectares of horticultural production land. Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the fourth and final round of Local Economic Recovery projects was a joint investment of $36.8 million to support recovery in Queensland communities hit hard by the 2019-20 bushfires. Ms Landry said the 21 projects funded across Queensland included an exciting project in Capricornia.

Yeppoon Coast Guard rescues boat dragged onto rocks

Premium Content Subscriber only Yeppoon Coast Guard went to the rescue of a power boat that had dragged its anchor and was pushed onto rocks overnight at Second Beach, Great Keppel Island. The volunteer crew received the call from the Mackay-based owner on Thursday, February 4. The extent of the damage was not known and the Yeppoon Rescue One with skipper Kingsley Bartle and crew arrived on scene at high tide ready to float the boat. The boat on the beach being wrapped in plastic. As the vessel was beached and due to extensive damage, it was not fit to float.

Walking trails to be improved in bushfire recovery scheme

Premium Content Subscriber only A $500,000 government bushfire recovery project will improve the pathway from Cooee Bay Beach to Wreck Point and Lammermoor Beach, including stairways, rest areas, boardwalk, a memorial bench seat and beach access. It is one of 12 projects announced by the Australian and Queensland governments to support areas of Queensland affected by the 2019-20 bushfires. Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the project would be a great boost for the Capricorn Coast. “The Capricorn Coast is a world-class tourist destination that we have the privilege of having right here in Central Queensland,” she said. “A project like this will help to further cement it’s position as a prime destination for locals to enjoy and interstate travels to visit.

CQ councils receive funding boost to help bushfire recovery

Premium Content Subscriber only Livingstone Shire Council will receive $500,000 in Local Economic Recovery funding to improve the pathway connection from Cooee Bay Beach to Wreck Point and Lammermoor Beach as part of the Queensland Government’s ongoing bushfire recovery. Last year’s Cobraball bushfire burnt across the Capricorn Coast, engulfing 12,100 hectares of land including 15 homes, 38 sheds, 8,500 hectares of grazing land and 275 hectares of horticultural production land. Last week, it was announced more than $11 million had been approved for 12 projects to help with the economic and social recovery in Queensland communities heavily impacted by last year’s bushfires. Gladstone Regional Council will also receive $185,000 in funding to procure a project officer to enhance community disaster resilience and preparedness and improve council’s current programs and resources.
