Prohibition wing on its toes to check hoarding of liquor bottles Updated: Updated: Share Article Cartons of illegally stocked liquor bottles confiscated in Karur district.   Hoarding of liquor bottles for illegal sale has been reported in parts of Karur and Pudukottai districts after closure of TASMAC outlets in view of the complete lockdown announced by the State government. Liquor bottles were seized in large numbers during raids conducted jointly by teams of Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) and local police. Over 6,500 liquor bottles have been confiscated from hoarders in the two districts since May 10 and the police have booked a slew of prohibition cases and arrested the accused, official sources said.

Pudukottai SP tests COVID-19 positive

Superintendent of Police, Pudukottai, L. Balaji Saravanan has tested positive for COVID-19. Health and Police department sources said Mr. Saravanan had subjected himself to home quarantine after he contracted the infection.  He had fever following which the samples were sent for tests. Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar inaugurated the ghat road on the day when maha kumbabishekam of the temple was also performed after renovations in the presence of H.M.Jayaram, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, P. Uma Maheswari, Collector, L. Balaji Saravanan, Superintendent of Police, and other officials.

He said as many as 1.79 lakh frontline workers have been vaccinated in the state so far with 8,000-10,000 people taking the shots on a daily basis. He was attending a vaccination drive at Pudukottai Government Medical College Hospital where district collector P Uma Maheswari and district superintendent of police L Balaji Saravanan took the shots on Tuesday. The state received 12.34 lakh doses of vaccine so far and more doses are expected to arrive. “Widespread awareness campaign has helped 1.74 lakh people take vaccine shots in the state so far. Apprehension among people on a new vaccine is usual. That’s the reason why I also took the vaccine shot to create awareness.

A special police team brought the rescued man D. Kumaravel from the Chennai airport where he reached by flight from Kolkata accompanied by a Tamil Sangam member from Dimapur in Nagaland.
