The price tag for television rights for NFL games is going up, though one of the league s partners, ESPN, is reportedly pushing back against the hike.
According to CNBC, CBS, FOX and NBC are all likely to accept increases of around 100%, while Disney which owns ESPN is pushing back, citing the high costs.
CNBC also reported that the NFL is in active negotiations with the TV partners and hopes to get the deals completed by March 17, the start of the new league year. We’re looking at the long-term trends of sports viewership, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said on an earnings conference call February 11, according to CNBC. We’ve had a long relationship with the NFL. If there’s a deal that will be accretive to shareholder value, we will certainly entertain that and look at that. But our first filter will be to say whether it makes sense for shareholder value going forward.
12. Houston Texans (never appeared in a Super Bowl): QB Deshaun Watson wants out. J.J. Watt is already out. There s no cap space for free agents. There s no first- or second-round pick in this year s draft. And executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby continues to be a source of controversy. Yikes.
11. Detroit Lions (never appeared in a Super Bowl): New coach Dan Campbell recently told the Detroit Free Press, We are looking two years out, three years out. And so everything to me starts two years out, and it doesn’t start right now. The recent trade of QB Matthew Stafford to the Rams for QB Jared Goff and a bundle of draft picks, including two first-rounders, suggests the long-term plan is already unfolding . and probably won t offer a whole lot of hope in 2021.
6. Ravens (5): Next orders of business? Extending QB Lamar Jackson s contract and getting him a No. 1 receiver . though maybe not in that order.
7. Browns (9): Finally headed in a productive direction, they ll have to ask themselves whether they re a better team with or without WR Odell Beckham Jr. moving forward.
8. Seahawks (7): What happened to the offense? Teams just started to figure us out, according to WR DK Metcalf. Be interesting to see what QB Russell Wilson and Co. figure out in 2021 with some new cooks in the kitchen.
9. Titans (10): A year ago, we wondered what RB Derrick Henry would do for an encore. Asking that anew, should we wonder if he ll break Eric Dickerson s single-season rushing record in 2021?

The reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs enter Super Bowl 55 as three-point favorites – a good indication it should be a close contest. And sounds about right given K.C. beat the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay 27-24 on Nov. 29.
Since that Week 12 meeting, the teams have combined to lose once – the Chiefs inconsequential Week 17 defeat to the Chargers, a game quarterback Patrick Mahomes and several other key starters missed to rest for the postseason. This team is a very tough team to beat. They haven’t been beaten (at full strength) in a long time. They’ve got a great offense, got a great defense, really well coached, very good on special teams, Bucs quarterback Tom Brady said Thursday of the Chiefs, winners of 25 of their past 27 games.
