Still no water for parts of Joburg since Saturday

Joburg Water says it will continue to supply water through the jojos and roaming tankers.
Residents of Alexandra, Kew, Lyndhurst, Lombardy East and West, among others, have been without water since Saturday morning.
According to a statement, a team is still busy securing the bolts. We will request Rand Water to open very slowly, which will result in the reservoir filling at a slow rate.

A security guard and an alleged hijacker were shot dead when police confronted a gang that had targeted a truck carrying cellphones with an estimated value of R60m.
The incident, which took place in Kelvin, Johannesburg, resulted in 19 people being arrested and 10 illegal firearms, four stolen or hijacked cars and a jamming device being recovered.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Brig Mathapelo Peters, members of the highway patrol unit together with Johannesburg North crime intelligence, the SAPS air wing, and Johannesburg metro police acted on information that a gang was planning to hijack a truck.
Police nabbed a whopping 19 suspects on Wednesday morning in Johannesburg for allegedly planning an armed robbery and truck hijacking.
Members of the Gauteng Highway Patrol unit together with the Johannesburg North Crime Intelligence, the SAPS Airwing, and the JMPD received information regarding a planned armed robbery, where a truck carrying a consignment of cellphones with an estimated value of about R60 million, would be hijacked.

SAPS Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said information eventually led the multi-disciplinary team to a house in Old Pretoria Road in Kelvin.
“It is reported that members of the HP were approaching when suspects started firing shots at them, to which the team retaliated and returned fire,” said Peters.

was also discovered that one suspect had snatched a seven-month-old baby to possibly use as a shield during the shootout.
