HealthDay News â Following 2 doses, the effectiveness of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is modestly lower against the delta variant vs the alpha variant, but the difference widens with only 1 dose, according to a study published online July 21 in the
New England Journal of Medicine.
Jamie Lopez Bernal, PhD, from Public Health England in the United Kingdom, and colleagues used a test-negative case-control design to estimate the effectiveness of vaccination against symptomatic disease caused by the delta variant (B.1.617.2) or the alpha variant (B.1.1.7) during the period that the delta variant began circulating. Data were included for all symptomatic sequenced cases of COVID-19 in England.
