The University of Utah police chief who says the school retaliated against him for trying to publicly address missteps in the case of slain student Lauren McCluskey is leaving the post.
Rodney Chatman is taking a similar job at Rhode Island s Brown University. The Ivy League school announced Tuesday that Chatman will be its new vice president for campus safety.
His formal departure from the University of Utah marks the latest chapter in turnover at top levels of the university. It follows the resignations of its president and its chief safety officer, a job created in response to the death of Lauren McCluskey, a 21-year-old communications major and track athlete.

A Utah State University music professor who was under investigation for allegedly raping an underage student nearly 30 years ago has resigned from his position as part of an agreement with the university.
Dennis Hirst, associate professor of music, submitted his resignation from USU on June 30 as opposed to having sanctions imposed on him, USU spokesperson Amanda DeRito told the newspaper on Wednesday.
Hirst had been under a USU investigation â and working from home â since the fall of 2018, when the school learned that Jaime Caliendo, a Cache Valley resident and former USU music student, filed a civil lawsuit against him in 1st District Court.

LOGAN, Utah â Officials are investigating after racist language and images were found in the Logan High School parking lot Wednesday.
According to the district, the vandalism was discovered in the parking lot and was removed after it was documented and reported to law enforcement. As clearly and explicitly as possible, the Logan City School District condemns both the use of racist language and imagery in any context, and the harmful ideologies that promote their use, a statement from the district said. We are saddened by this act of vandalism, and reiterate to our students, staff, and community our commitment to promoting a safe and equitable learning environment for all students.
