One person died and two were injured Thursday morning when a semitrailer truck crashed into a stalled SUV on Interstate 88 in Lisle, police said.
A 2011 Ford Expedition was heading west just before 10 a.m. when it started experiencing mechanical problems and came to a stop in a traffic lane near Naperville Road, according to Illinois State Police. For unknown reasons, the semi was unable to stop in time and struck the disabled SUV.
Both vehicles became engulfed in flames due to the impact of the rear-end collision, officials said. Fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze while paramedics treated two people who were able to escape before first responders arrived, according to the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District.
