Six-mile linear park to be added along Able Canal

A new park is coming to Lehigh Acres.
An interlocal agreement between the Lee County Board of County Commissioners and the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District was approved last week calling for the county to develop, operate and maintain a 6-mile long linear park along the northern side of Able Canal.
The LA-MSID, which owns the property, will be closely involved in the design, permitting, construction and subsequent operation and maintenance of the park. The district will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of infrastructure that is not associated with the linear park project.

Lee County commissioners on Tuesday approved the development of a 6-mile-long linear park in Lehigh Acres. They also approved the resurfacing of some streets in the area.
The linear park will run along the northern side of Able Canal and will include a shared-use pathway with connections to Harns Marsh, Lehigh Acres Park/Barbara Farrell Park, Lehigh Elementary School and Lehigh Acres Trailhead Park.
The property is owned by the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District and they will be involved in the design, permitting, construction and subsequent operation and maintenance of the park. The district will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of infrastructure not associated with the linear park project.

Lehigh Acres has a new Welcome to Lehigh sign.
The Board of Commissioners and staff at the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District hosted a micro-event last Wednesday to celebrate the unveiling of the district’s first welcome sign located near the entrance to the community on Lee Boulevard between State Road 82 and Leonard Boulevard.
The ribbon cutting ceremony observed CDC guidelines and followed precautions to protect against COVID-19 spread.
LA-MSID staff, commissioners and other local leaders came to celebrate the sign installation, which marks a historic milestone for the district.
