The discovery of a body in a burning car near Kerikeri is being treated by police as unexplained.
Kerikeri Fire Brigade was called to the end of Wharau Rd, about 10km east of town, just after 7pm on Tuesday when residents reported a car on fire.

Kaitaia boxer Mea Motu will have her next fight this weekend shown on Spark Sport.

Unbeaten Kaitaia boxer Mea Motu has her next bout this weekend, to be screened on Spark Sport.
Featherweight Motu, with a 4-0 record, will feature in the co-main event of Peach Boxing s upcoming fight night, which will be held in Auckland on Saturday.
Spark Sport will cover the fight, marking the company s first entry into local boxing.
After this fight, Motu s next bout will be on March 27 against Tania Reid for a New Zealand title. She also hopes to fight in Kaitaia this year. The aim is for her to keep busy and gain ring experience so she can make her mark on the international stage in 2022.
Total fire ban imposed as massive wildfire tears through hills above Ahipara

A massive wildfire was last night raging in the hills above Ahipara forcing the evacuation of multiple homes just hours before a total fire ban was due to come into force across Northland. The alarm was raised about 5.45pm yesterday with the Ahipara and Kaitaia brigades the first to respond, backed up by four helicopters using monsoon buckets.

The fire was in the Gumfields Historic Reserve immediately above the west coast settlement which is currently packed with holidaymakers.
