LAKEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) A Los Angeles County sheriff s motorcycle deputy was killed Thursday morning in a traffic collision in Lakewood, Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced.
In a tweet, Villanueva said he was saddened to share news of the fatal crash, which occurred near Del Amo and Paramount boulevards.
Deputy Thomas J. Albanese, 41, leaves behind a wife and two sons, ages 7 and 11. He was a Marine veteran who served four tours of duty in Iraq.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Albanese joined the department in 2013 and became a motorcycle officer last year.
A GoFundMe has been established to help the family of Deputy Albanese.

LAKEWOOD, Ohio â Lakewood police are investigating a crash that left two people dead and two others injured early Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. near Clifton Boulevard and Fry Avenue.
Lakewood police said two vehicles were involved in the crash. Witnesses said one of the cars involved in the crash appeared to be torn in half.
