Man shot to death in Lakewood apartment, police investigating

LAKEWOOD, Ohio â A 44-year-old Lakewood resident was shot to death in an apartment, according to the Lakewood Police Department.
On Sunday around 9:22 a.m., officers were called to an apartment building near the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Madison Avenue. Once on scene, officers found several spent shell casings outside of an apartment door.
When officers did not receive a response from inside of the apartment, they forced entry and located a man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. â A man has been found guilty in the killing of a woman at the Chalet Motel in Lakewood in 2019, officials said.
Jarvis Gates, 39, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Rotasha Pryor-Thomas.
Around 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2019, officers with the Lakewood Police Department responded to a report of a woman who had been found dead at the Chalet Motel, which is located at 6051 W. Alameda Ave.
A few days later â on Nov. 5 around 2 p.m. â detectives arrested Gates in connection to the homicide.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. â Retired Lakewood Police Chief Charles Johnston died over the weekend âafter a valiant battle with cancer,â the department said Monday.
Johnston, 78, spent 30 years with the Lakewood Police Department, with nearly 20 years as the chief.
During his time, he headed every division and also served a two-year term as acting city manager. Heâs responsible for a department name change, making the switch from the Lakewood Department of Public Safety to the Lakewood Police Department.
