Nature: Iceland gull discovery a delightful holiday treat

January 8, 2021 An Iceland gull (Bruce Finnan) Jack Swatt, who lives in Wolcott, took on an ambitious project several years ago. He decided to revive the Bristol Christmas Bird Count, one of the original counts in what has become a birding tradition throughout North America and beyond. Getting this off the ground took a lot of planning and effort, not least of which included recruitment of enough birders to cover the count area and finding a day during each CBC season on which most can participate. I’ve been taking part because, aside from being fun, it’s convenient for me. A portion of the circle is in the northwest part of Waterbury. Jack assigned me to that area and some of neighboring Wolcott, which include places such as Lakewood Park and Scoville Reservoir.
