In Lakeland visit, Gov Ron DeSantis urges approval of importing drugs from Canada

LAKELAND – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came to Lakeland on Friday morning to stand inside a cavernous building filled with towering, orange shelves holding absolutely nothing. In the near future, DeSantis said, he expects those shelves to be loaded with pharmaceutical supplies and the LifeScience Logistics distribution center to be thrumming with activity. DeSantis held a news conference at the newly constructed warehouse to press the Biden Administration for approval of a drug-importation program created through Florida laws enacted in 2019. He said the state only needs federal permission to begin importing prescription drugs from Canada, a change he said could save Floridians more than $100 million a year on drug costs.
