With organised gatherings cancelled due to Covid-19 for the second year in a row, those taking part in the event on Saturday morning were asked to witness the sunrise and share their experiences of the dawn through social media.
Despite the miserable weather conditions, thousands of people took part and by early Saturday afternoon, as JOE reported, over â¬6.7 million had been raised.
In the following days, this figure has since risen by more than half a million to a whopping â¬7,347,097.
â¬1.1 million of the money raised came from viewers of Friday night s The Late Late Show after the programme s fundraising drive.

Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy hailed viewers incredible generosity
Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy announced that viewers have raised over €20million for Irish charities over the last year, as the show s latest fundraiser for Pieta House nears the million mark.
Tubridy made the announcement, hailing the incredible generosity of the show’s viewers, at the end of Friday night’s show which took place on the eve of Pieta’s flagship Darkness Into Light fundraiser.
By the time the show ended, over €910,000 had been raised in aid of Pieta.
Pieta clinical manager Leigh Kenny said she was absolutely blown away by the generosity of the Irish nation.
Darkness Into Light 2021 took place at dawn on Saturday morning. With organised gatherings cancelled due to Covid-19 for the second year in a row, those taking part were asked to witness the sunrise and share their experiences of the early morning through social media.
At the time of writing, â¬6,722,749 has been raised so far - with the number still rising.
