Flowery Branch Mayor Mike Miller won’t run for re-election, he said Thursday, April 1.
Miller, whose post is on the Nov. 2 ballot, said family took priority in his decision.
“I’ve got 12- and 13-year-old sons, and their activities are picking up,” he said. “In the past year, I’ve had to miss more and more of their activities. And as a father, you don’t get that time back.”
He added: “We’ve had some tragic events here in the past few months with some teenagers in that age range that really puts a spin on life. It made me reflect on what’s important in life.”

There is a long road between now and Georgia’s November municipal elections; however, several cities in Hall County have begun the process of publishing qualifying details for candidates eyeing a seat on their local municipal boards.
Municipalities had until Feb. 1 to publish qualifying fees before candidates can begin filing for respective seats in August.

A Nov. 2 election for the Flowery Branch mayor’s seat and three City Council posts was given final approval Thursday, Nov. 21, by the Flowery Branch City Council.
The Flowery Branch mayor’s seat and three City Council posts are up for election this year.
The council also OK’d qualifying to take place Aug. 16-18 at City Hall, 5410 W. Pine St.
New terms, for those expiring, will begin Jan. 1, 2022, and run through Dec. 31, 2025.
The seats up for election are now held by Mayor Mike Miller and council members Leslie Jarchow, Joe Anglin and Amy Farah. The other council members are Ed Asbridge and Chris Mundy. Their posts don’t come up for election until 2023.
