Facing down opposition, Sandisfield selectboard approves large-scale cannabis grow facility

Sandisfield Selectman George Riley The vote by the three-member board was unanimous and came attached with some conditions proposed by board member George Riley after discussions with town counsel Jonathan M. Ahead of pot farm vote, Sandisfield residents question deed that restricts land to homes

SANDISFIELD â€” A cannabis grower seeking to operate a greenhouse and manufacturing business has given town officials additional information they had requested to inform their vote Monday on whether to grant a special permit for the project. The company, Sama Productions LLC, provided details on the potential for noise, pollution, and proof that the company can operate its proposed business on property it owns near the state forest. The deed attached to the company s three lots totaling 60 acres, however, has a restriction placed on it by the property s seller that Jesse Belcher-Timme, an attorney for a group of residents, says should, in part, disqualify the company from receiving the permit. That restriction says only single-family homes can be built there.

Pot cultivation plan unsettles Sandisfield neighbors, as officials rush to finish bylaws

SANDISFIELD — A company under contract for land to grow and manufacture wholesale cannabis clinched a financial agreement Monday with the town — should officials eventually grant it permission to build and operate. But, the proposal by Sama Productions LLC off Abby and Town Hill Roads concerns residents worried that the town’s bucolic atmosphere might be sullied by cannabis commerce, harming property values. Residents also say that the project feels predatory, since the town does not yet have cannabis bylaws. It prompted residents to ask the Select Board a number of questions Monday and to seek a six-month moratorium to prevent the pot outfits from coming to town until local cannabis regulations are on the books.
