MASERU – THE party is new but the promises are old. This was the message sent to residents of Koro-Koro last Sunday as former All Basotho Convention (ABC) deputy leader, Professor Nqosa Mahao, officially unveiled his Basotho Action Party (BAP). Professor Mahao defected from the ABC last month. He had been part of the coalition government as justice minister having played a pivotal role in ousting former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane last year. He didn’t stay long in the government before a fall-out that saw him and a few allies breaking out and forming the BAP. Thousands of people attended the launch rally held at a football ground near St Joseph’s RC Mission, eager to hear the promises of the new party.

Two suspected illegal immigrants to appear before FS court

───   11:29 Mon, 24 May 2021 Two suspects who were arrested this weekend due to illegal immigration and the possession of and dealing in dagga, are to appear before the Clocolan Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The 20-year-old and 30-year-old men from Mapoteng in Lesotho were arrested during a stop-and-search operation on Saturday afternoon in an intensive police patrol that yielded positive results in Clocolan. According to a media statement, two police officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation, when they came across two suspicious men who were carrying huge travelling bags on the R708 road near the filling station at Clocolan. The police officers discovered black refuse bags that were wrapped, containing dagga weighing 65 kg. The estimated street value of dagga that was confiscated is R65 000. The two suspects who were on their way to Marquard, were arrested and the dagga was impounded by police officials. The two are expected to appear on charge
