In association with The Birley Clubs, The Golden Vines Award Ceremony, Dinner & After-Party will be held at Annabel’s Private Members’ Club, London’s pre-eminent private members’ club, in Mayfair, London on 7th October 2021.
The not-for-profit Golden Vines Awards event will recognise the ‘star performers of the fine wine industry’ and raise funds for The Gerard Basset Wine Education Charitable Foundation with the aim of funding diversity and inclusion-related wine education programmes, including the headline Golden Vines Diversity Scholarship, Internship & Mentorship Programmes.

In restaurant news: the UK restaurant market is expected to grow by almost a third this year, a report finds test and trace data from restaurants was barely used, and hospitality in Texas reopens at full capacity.
Value of UK restaurant sector expected to grow by a third: According to its latest report, analyst Lumina Intelligence has forecast that the UK restaurant market will increase by 32.1% to £11.7 billion this year. It follows a tough year in 2020 which saw the sector contract by 53.1% to £8.9bn. Its predictions are based on the current roadmap to recovery, which sees all restrictions on social contact removed by 21 June.

The journalist and historian Godfrey Hodgson, who has died aged 86, was among the most perceptive and industrious observers of his generation, particularly in the field of American society and politics.
His reputation was founded on his landmark study, America in Our Time: From World War II to Nixon (1976), acknowledged by the Cambridge historian Gary Gerstle as “one of the great works of political and social history written in the past half century”. At 600 pages long and in continuous print since its first publication, it was but one item in a prolific output that ran to more than 15 books, extensive university teaching and a lifetime of newspaper and television reporting (as well as numerous Guardian obituaries). As a journalist, Hodgson reckoned he had worked in 48 of the 50 US states.
