Westport Man Nabbed With Child Porn, Police Say

Read / Add Comments A Fairfield County man has been arrested for allegedly having a large amount of child pornography on his home and work computers. Michael Newman, age 65, of Westport, turned himself in to Westport Police on Friday, May 21, for a case that began in December 2020, said Lieutenant David Wolf. According to Wolf, Westport Police receive a tip in December that a town resident was possibly downloading child pornography onto his electronic devices.  The detective investigating the matter was able to determine that the IP address of the devices being utilized to download the suspected images did in fact come back to a home in Westport.

Woman Driving Drunk Crashes Into Cement Pillar In Fairfield County, Police Say

Read / Add Comments A 39-year-old woman has been accused of driving drunk after allegedly losing control of her vehicle while attempting to answer her phone and hitting a cement pillar. Gayle Gawlik, of Norwalk, was arrested on Thursday, May 14, after Westport Police responded to the area of Greens Farms Road on a report of a single-vehicle crash, said Westport PD Lieutenant David Wolf.  According to Wolf, when officers arrived on the scene they found a vehicle with heavy front-end damage along with Gawlik who claimed that she was not injured. Gawlik told officers that she was trying to answer a phone call through the car’s blue tooth system when she lost control of the vehicle and ended up striking a cement pillar that was located on the right shoulder, Wolf said.

Four Vehicles Stolen, 15 Break-Ins In Past Four Days Reports One Fairfield County Town

Read / Add Comments A Fairfield County town is asking residents to lock their vehicles and remove key fobs after four vehicles have been stolen since Saturday, May 1. The vehicles were all stolen from Westport, and in all instances, the vehicles were unlocked and the keys were left in the cars, said Lieutenant David Wolf.  In addition, Wolf said the department has also responded to 15 vehicle break-ins over the past five days. In all cases of vehicles being entered, which resulted in thefts, the doors were unlocked, he added. The crimes occurred overnight and the department is actively investigating these incidents.
