Atlantic Bay Mortgage opens office

Thirty former Surry-Yadkin Works interns now have jobs after signing commitments with local employers. During the spring 2021 semester, Surry-Yadkin Works interns were employed by 17 local businesses and organizations. Of the 50 student interns, 46 plan to continue their education in their internship field. Anahi Nunez, a recent graduate of the Surry Early College High School, earned a certification in Business Administration from Surry Community College. She has been hired by Altec to be an office assistant. Three students were hired by Chatham Nursing & Rehabilitation to continue working as certified nursing assistants – Gabby Gomez, Starmount High School graduate; Emily Johnson, North Surry High School graduate; and Estefania Camacho, Surry Early College graduate, who also earned an Associate in Arts degree from Surry Community College.

Shop in Hamilton, NY sells low-cost clothes to benefit community

After more than a year shuttered because of the coronavirus, the Worn Again Clothing Shop triumphantly reopened June 1 to once again offer used clothing at no cost to the needy and a low cost to the public. Revenues from their sales at the not-for-profit Hamilton shop are then distributed to benefit a wide variety of local charitable organizations.  Worn Again president Barb Albrecht said to prepare for their reopening they spent more than two weeks going through bags of donated clothing, sorting and organizing it into attractive displays arranged by color. They even spruced up their shop, located inside Parry s General Store, with flowers, she said.
