Justice Minister not satisfied with Lethbridge Police Service s improvement plan

CBC. The LPS has been ordered to send in a revised plan by June 25. In a statement to Lethbridge News Now, the LPS confirmed this news. Lethbridge Police’s statement read that, “the Lethbridge Police Commission recently received a request from the Minister of Justice to provide additional information in relation to the action plan it had submitted earlier.” “The Lethbridge Police Commission is in the process of working with the Lethbridge Police Service to provide that information, which included requests of the Commission which hadn’t been asked for previously.” No further comment has been provided by LPS at this time.

$17,000 in drugs seized by LPS, two charged

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service has charged two individuals with multiple drug-related offences after they seized more than $17,000 in drugs. LPS arrested the two after a short-term investigation on Sunday, May 2 in a vehicle parked in the 100-block of Purdue Court West. The vehicle had a stolen license plate attached. Police seized 62.9 grams of methamphetamine and 18.6 grams of fentanyl, along with more than $12,000 in cash as the proceeds of crime. Jyi Trotter, 41, of Lethbridge has a list of 10 charges including two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of trafficking in the proceeds of crime over $5,000. Trotter will remain in custody with a court appearance set for May 6, 2021.

Bill proposed to strengthen democracy in Alberta

EDMONTON, AB – The province has introduced legislation aimed at improving democracy in Alberta. Bill 68, the Election Statutes Amendment Act would see some changes to the Referendum Act as well as the Education Act. The Referendum Act allows referendums to be held on government-led initiatives or matters of public interest before they’re implemented – including the recommendations of the Fair Deal Panel. More on the Fair Deal Panel is available here. Meanwhile, the Education Act contains eligibility requirements for candidates seeking nominations for francophone regional authority trustees.
