LEXINGTON, N.C. A domestic assault in Lexington Saturday night has landed a mother and her child in the hospital and a man behind bars.
Toney Allison, 36, is charged with strangling and assaulting his partner, Taylor Winecoff and her child, Lexington police said.
The child suffered serious, but not life-threatening cuts after attempting to stop Allison from assaulting Winecoff with a machete, officials said. Police did not say how the child got access to the machete, only that the child was cut on the face and hands when Allison wrested the weapon from the child.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â Despite the rain, many people showed up at Duncan Park in Lexington Saturday afternoon for the first peace walk of the year hosted by the Antonio Franklin Jr. Violence Prevention Project.
Antonio Franklin was killed in 2014 when he was hit by gunfire while at Duncan Park.
His mother, Anita Franklin, was a community activist who started the peace walk after his death. When she passed away last year, her son, Ricardo, took the lead in continuing their mission.
The goal of the walk is to bring awareness to the consequences of gun violence, the effect on families, and how to end it.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â After more than a year, the Reptile Expo has returned to Lexington.
On Saturday, hundreds of Kentuckians were able to get an up-close look at different kinds of snakes, lizards, and other animals.
The bi-monthly event has been shut down because of COVID-19 restrictions, but in downtown Lexington Saturday, families once again had the chance to get out and see the cold-blooded animals on display. There s probably 2 to 3 thousand animals in the room right now, Kentucky Reptile Expo provider, Derrick Burnet, said. A lot of very knowledgeable vendors, they re happy to show what they ve got, they ll talk to ya. It s a great experience for kids just to come in, see something they ve never seen before.
In honor of the one-year anniversary of Breonna Taylor's death, the group LPD Accountability held a car caravan protest in downtown Lexington Saturday afternoon.
