COLUMBIA, S.C. Law enforcement agencies in the Midlands are struggling to find enough officers to fill positions.
Some agencies in the Midlands have begun to provide financial incentives as a way to encourage candidates to apply. Law enforcement is like we compete with each other, said Captain Kevin Blackmon, Lexington County Sheriffs Department. Everybody has a need for good employees and everybody gets creative in ways to do it and that s one things the county sheriff and county council fought for.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Over the past few weeks, weâve learned about catalytic converter thefts from multiple law enforcement agencies around the Midlands.
âWhat the crooks are doing, theyâre getting up under cars, they make two quick slices and take the catalytic converter with them,â Cpt. Adam Myrick from the Lexington County Sheriffâs Department said.
Officials say in mere moments, a thief could slide under your vehicle steal the catalytic converter, and head over to scrapyard to swap it out for up to about $200.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Lexington Police Department and the Lexington County Sheriffâs Department are searching for a man in connection with a carjacking.
The incident occurred near I-20 and Augusta Road.
Officials say they attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspect fled the vehicle on foot.
LCSD has set up a perimeter around the area as they search for the suspect.
The suspect is described as a 5â²8 Black male wearing a black and white hooded sweatshirt.
