Jockey Luis Contreras guides Avie s Flatter to victory in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes at Woodbine.
Avie s Flatter notched his second win in two starts in 2021 with his victory in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup at Woodbine Race Course. On a good turf course at the Toronto, Ontario track, the Josie Carroll trainee sat behind the pacesetters and waited for the stretch to accelerate to win the seven-furlong stakes race.
Breaking from the rail, jockey Luis Contreras positioned Avie s Flatter third behind front runners Silent Post, the 2020 Connaught Cup winner, and Chuck Willis. On the backstretch, Avie s Flatter maintained his position in the rail, while the two leaders set fractions of :23.46 for the first quarter and then :46.18 for the first half.

Avie s Flatter
Multiple stakes winner Avie s Flatter, who cruised to victory in his return to action in June, faces eight rivals on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course in Sunday s Grade 2 $175,000 Connaught Cup Stakes, at Woodbine.
Bred and owned by Ivan Dalos (Tall Oaks Farm), the five-year-old son of Flatter, trained by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee Josie Carroll, romped to an impressive 5 ¼-length score over the Tapeta on June 13 at Woodbine.
The victory, at seven furlongs, was the first race in nearly a year for Avie s Flatter, whose previous outing was a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Seagram Cup last July.
