Anguish filled courtroom 501 in the Milwaukee County Courthouse on Friday afternoon as the woman responsible for the reckless driving death of a south side couple was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge David Borowski sentenced Alicia Ojeda, 34, to 15 years in prison and 10 years of probation for each of the two reckless homicide charges in which she pleaded guilty. She will serve each sentence concurrently.
On Oct. 17, Ojeda was driving North on South 27th Street at about 100 mph when she struck a car that was turning left on Edgerton Avenue. The crash instantly killed Luis and Teresa Contreras, a well-known couple in Milwaukee s Latino immigrant community.

NAMPA, Idaho â Reynaldo Celestino is a family nurse practitioner with Family Medicine Health Center in Nampa who s helping administer the COVID-19 vaccine to local agricultural workers.
It s an effort near and dear to his heart.
âI think thatâs amazing that we are able to reach out to this specific population. Coming from a family of immigrant families, specifically migrant workers, here in the Treasure Valley, Celestino said.
Family Medicine set up a clinic at the Saltzer building to vaccinate more than 100 farmworkers on Saturday.
Woman pleads guilty to 2 counts in double-fatal Milwaukee crash

MILWAUKEE - Alicia Ojeda, charged in a double-fatal 2020 crash on Milwaukee s south side, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree reckless homicide on Tuesday, March 9.
According to court documents, the 34-year-old was also charged with two counts of knowingly operating while suspended (cause death). Those two charges will be dismissed but read in.
The crash, which killed husband and wife Luis and Teresita Contreras, happened near 27th and Edgerton in October.
A criminal complaint states that a witness told police that she saw a vehicle flying north on 27th Street. The witness said she had never seen a car moving that fast before, and estimated its speed at 100 mph. The witness then heard a pop and saw there was an accident.
