Fire officials respond to brush fire near Amtrak Station in San Luis Obispo

UPDATE: San Luis Obispo City Fire officials say they believe the fire near the Amtrak station could be human-caused.
They say a homeless encampment is nearby, however, the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire officials say the train tracks were shut down and the train was delayed by a half-hour.
Amtrak operations are back to normal.
San Luis Obispo City fire officials responded to reports of a brush fire Thursday.
Reports of the fire came in at around 2:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of Railroad Avenue in San Luis Obispo.

As public health experts continue to push the population towards herd immunity against COVID-19, San Luis Obispo County is beginning the work of vaccinating homeless individuals housed within their shelter systems by bringing the vaccine to them.
This week, Transitions Mental Health Association teamed up with the San Luis Obispo Police Department to provide the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to people living within homeless encampments.
Lt. John Villanti with SLO PD said it’s not a simple task finding individuals since there are several miles of encampments scattered throughout the city.
“It wasn’t like we knew exactly where they were, Villanti said. It took us 3-4 hours to walk many many miles of the open space to find the encampments and if they were occupied, offer the services of providing the vaccination for them.”

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Luis Obispo City firefighters extinguished a vehicle after it went up in flames Saturday near a home.
Crews responded to the fire around 12:44 p.m. on the 800 block of Skyline Drive.
City Fire said the vehicle was parked in the driveway of the home.
Crews were able to knock it down before it extended into the garage.
No injuries were reported.
They said the cause of the fire appears to be mechanical, however, the exact cause is under investigation.
