Most recently in Billerica, Council on Aging Director Jean Bushnell received one of the newest scam calls from someone claiming to be a member of the United States Border Patrol.
According to Frost, The caller claimed the victim’s name was attached to a large amount of drugs and cash seized at the border and they must immediately call back to rectify the situation or face legal implications.
He said thankfully Bushnell knew the call was a targeted scam and reported it to local authorities immediately.
Frost pushed residents to warn those in the community most vulnerable to scam to watch out for this newest tactic from fraudsters. He said if anyone does experience one of these calls, or texts to report it directly to the FBI through their Internet Crimes Complain Center [IC3] at ic3.gov.
