Picture of a police car. Pic Fran Way A THAMES Valley police sergeant who hit a child and left him naked in a police cell could be banned from ever working as an officer again. Police Sergeant (PS) Matthew Myers, 49, appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on February 23 after he was charged with battery. Investigators from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) looked at CCTV from the Banbury Custody Suite and interviewed detention officers working at the time to put the case against him. The footage revealed that PS Myers had struck the 16-year-old boy on the face and then removed his clothing – leaving him naked until the detention officer came into the cell to help him.
Drink driver A WINCHESTER man was caught drink driving 85 miles from his home and on his birthday. Ionut Ostache was stopped while driving a Fiat Punto on Newlands Road, in Luton, on March 6, and a breath test was carried out. The 29-year-old was found to have 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35. Ostache, of Harrow Down, appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on April 22 where pleaded guilty to drink driving. Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 18 months and fined him £300. He must also pay court costs of £85 and a £34 victim surcharge.
