Event Description
The University of Louisiana Monroe Fifth Annual Women’s Symposium in partnership with the ULM Alumni Association has a theme of “WINGS – Women Influencing the Next Generation of Success” and also celebrates March as Women’s History Month.
The symposium’s mission is to empower, motivate, and encourage girls and women from all backgrounds and all educational and professional levels to pursue their passions and seek leadership roles in their careers.
The move to a virtual platform is to make the symposium accessible to as many people as possible.
The symposium opens with keynote speaker Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed, Ph.D.
Louisiana Tech University’s Science and Technology Education Center (SciTEC) in the College of Education recently announced plans to establish the STEM Collective for Innovative Louisiana Stakeholders (SCILS) Center.
The Center, established in partnership with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) stakeholders along the Interstate-20 corridor, will serve Louisiana’s Region 8 from Caddo Parish to East Carroll Parish as a member of the Louisiana Regional STEM Network.
“The development of Louisiana’s regional STEM centers will help us in building a robust STEM ecosystem across our state,” said Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, Louisiana’s Commissioner of Higher Education. “By bringing together regional partners around a common goal of innovation combined with stronger STEM education to employment pathways, great things are ahead for our students and our state. Louisiana Tech is stepping forward to lead in this area.”

SHREVEPORT, La. â A 100-plus acre site in Shreveport that was in the running for an Amazon facility was given the green light Wednesday to move forward with a preliminary site plan should the company â or any others â knock on the door.
The Shreveport/Caddo Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission four years ago approved the propertyâs development plan. However, since some time has passed with no activity, the property owners had to resubmit the site for review.
A lot of potential prospects have looked at the land.
âWe just havenât landed one yet,â said Mark Snow of Aillet, Fenner, Jolly & McClelland Inc. âAs soon as we land one then we will build.â
