SHREVEPORT, La. â A 100-plus acre site in Shreveport that was in the running for an Amazon facility was given the green light Wednesday to move forward with a preliminary site plan should the company â or any others â knock on the door.
The Shreveport/Caddo Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission four years ago approved the propertyâs development plan. However, since some time has passed with no activity, the property owners had to resubmit the site for review.
A lot of potential prospects have looked at the land.
âWe just havenât landed one yet,â said Mark Snow of Aillet, Fenner, Jolly & McClelland Inc. âAs soon as we land one then we will build.â
It could. And has been.
But even though thereâs no concrete development application pending, thatâs not stopped at least two developers from moving forward with the preliminary process to have the ground ready should a major distribution facility decide to set up shop locally.
âWe believe very strongly that at some point a major distribution will come to Shreveport,â Metropolitan Planning Commission Executive Director Alan Clarke said Tuesday. âBoth of these are good possibilities.â
Amazon does not have a current application pending; however, there have been at least two prior applications, including one that was in the running when the company in late December announced plans to build a fulfillment center â the first in Louisiana â at the former Evangeline Downs horse track in the Lafayette Parish community of Carencro. Amazon warehouses are already planned in Baton Rouge.
